1959 Box from The Cracker Jack Co.West 66th Street, Chicago

Post by dpawelczyk » Sun Apr 09, 2017 1:26 pm

Hi, I am new to this forum. I recently purchased what appears to be an antique aluminum spritz cookie press with attachments. It came with what the previous owner said was its original box. (The press does fit perfectly in this box.)

The box says on it "From The Cracker Jack Co. 4800 West 66th Street, Chicago, Ill. It is addressed to "Mrs. E. Goebel, 2906 1/2 Douglas Ave, Racine, Wis. The postmark on the box is dated SEP 1959 from Chicago IL.

I have tried to research to find out why a cookie press would have been mailed from The Cracker Jack Co. but have found nothing. I also have not found any question between The Cracker Jack Co and Mrs. E. Goebel.

Any information anyone can provide would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Several of us Cracker Jack collectors have found the same cake decorating set that you have, and like yours, in the original mailing box. There is another similar set of plastic decorations to put on top of cakes that are numbers and sayings like "Happy Birthday". These were also sent from Cracker Jack in the same time frame as your find. They only thing that Cracker Jack collectors can tell you is that these items were mail-aways and mostly likely associated with Angelus marshmallows, which the Cracker Jack Company also manufactured. My guess is that a coupon was either in the package of marshmallows or published in some women's magazine, but to date, no coupon or magazine ad has been found. If you ever do find the origin, we'd love to know! Thanks for the post.
