Hi-
Back in July, I looked at the pictures for The Dreier Collection sale. The sale included a Star War Collection, Hot Wheels, costumes for varies movies, pop culture stuff and tons more. It was very interesting to look at all the items that Chad Dreier and his son Doug collected. The collection was in a private museum in Santa Barbara, California. Not sure why everything was for sale.
The Cracker Jack pictures were not very detailed, so it was hard to see the complete collection. They estimated the Cracker Jack collection to sell at $40,000.00 - $60,000.00 a little bit out of my price range :( . I'm not sure how much it finally sold for, but someone bought it and decided to have an ebay company sell everything piece by piece. It's been interesting to look at all the different prizes!
Good luck with your bidding!

:o What? Your teacher salary isn't substantial enough to purchase the Drier collection? I just don't believe it! Thank you for the background information on this collection, Nancy. Very interesting, indeed.

I've been able to pick up quite a few items in my area of collecting. Some of the prices were pretty strong though. There was a fair amount of stiff competition.

I have a feeling that this may have been a once-in-a-generation opportunity though so I feel fortunate to have been able to acquire so many pieces so early in my collecting career.

I'm going to be posting a thread in the near future about a particular series of prizes that are my main collecting focus, and that I have been researching. Many pieces from the Drier collection will be included in the write up.

Berean, it has been exciting to be able to acquire a few rare items. On more than a few occasions lost out on the bidding war, but there will always be a next time. When it's all over, I'll post a few of the rare items that we were lucky enough to win.

I had no idea that the Dreier's were member of the elite CJCA Losers. A few of his CJCA convention badges, as well as his 2001 Cheeseheads badges are for sale on eBay, item # 120984271116. It's a shame I missed those early conventions.

I didn't know about the Drier collection, but I did buy some various items from this eBay seller. Yes. I have returned to buying Cracker Jack prizes. When I left the country, it was easy to forget about it. But now that I am back in Kansas, it is hard to resist. I always knew that when I came back from South America I would have to start collecting CJ again. eBay sure makes it easy to get a collection going. It is interesting to start a new collection when I already know a little about the hobby.

By the way Luke. I feel really fortunate that I was able to attend some of those early conventions. CJCA is an awesome group of collectors.

Jeffrey,

The Dreier collection went to auction on July 28, and the winner then resold everything on eBay. I was lucky enough to get a few items, and I love them.

I was at Penzey's buying spices yesterday, and I was thinking of you! They had so many variety of chili spices, and I remembered you couldn't find any in the jungles of South America. I was thinking about sending you some for Christmas, but now you're back. Welcome back!!!

We are all glad you are back in Kansas and collecting once again, Jeffrey. Does that mean all of us have to give back the prizes we purchased from your "moving sale" several years ago? ;) As another person who left Kansas and returned once said, "There's no place like home."
